Solitude For My Mental Health?
4 Reasons You Should Spend More Time Alone
4 Reasons You Should Spend More Time Alone

As a society, we’ve spent far too long thinking of “alone time” as something to avoid. We’re constantly encouraged to be super social and never spend a moment alone. As a result, even when we are technically alone, we’re not spending quality time with our highest selves. Instead, we’re scrolling the gram, learning TikTok, and responding to pointless emails.
However, according to Psychology Today, the ability to tolerate alone time has been linked to increased happiness, better life satisfaction, and improved stress management. In addition, people who enjoy alone time experience less depression.
Too many people fear being alone. Too many fear being in their own presence with no one to face but themselves. They don’t know how to do it, and if they are alone, misery floods their minds — Destiny S. Harris.
Spending time in solitude is like starting a meditation practice. You may not be able to focus at first, but once it clicks, a new world opens up. Once you’ve become comfortable with being alone — whether it takes a day or a few weeks, your relationship with yourself will improve dramatically.
Here’s why:
1. Recharge and Reflect
Taking time for yourself is a vital part of maintaining your well-being. When you’re out of balance, your body will tell you. You may feel tired or short-tempered and may experience physical symptoms such as insomnia and headaches.
You need to give yourself permission to recharge and maintain your energy levels. Taking time for yourself can help with stress relief and make it easier to manage your day.
Alone time allows us to reflect and plan our next steps so that we are ready to take action when we return from this break.
2. Strengthens Relationships
Alone time is the foundation of a healthy relationship with yourself. You can connect with your innermost thoughts and emotions when you’re alone.
Likewise, spending time by yourself strengthens relationships with others. Whether it’s a romantic partner or a family member, being comfortable spending time apart will support your bond by allowing each person in the relationship space for reflection and growth.
This is especially important for couples who are married or live together full-time; when both people feel comfortable being alone, it allows them both time for self-development.
3. Enhances Creativity
When you’re alone, it can be easier to get creative. Many people wonder how they can improve their creativity. One way to do this is by taking some time out of your day to do things that help you think outside the box and come up with new ideas. Only you know what that is. 4. Learn to be independent
To be truly happy, you must learn how to enjoy your company. To do this, you’ll have to get comfortable with being alone and learning to take care of yourself. Whether it’s cooking healthy meals, exercising daily, or practicing mindfulness techniques such as meditation, learning to be independent will make you more self-sufficient and also helps you avoid relying on other people in stressful situations.
So What Did We Learn?
Solitude isn’t a punishment; it’s a healer. Of course, you should always be open to spending time with others; however, it’s essential not to forget your needs. Taking time to yourself can benefit your mind, body, and soul. So go ahead and get cozy in that room alone!
Key Message — Alone time is essential for your mental health and well-being. Solitude can strengthen relationships, boost creativity, and encourage independence. So take some time out of your day and revel in the joys of being alone with yourself!
